Who Makes KitchenAid?

Where Are KitchenAid Products Made? (Are They Made in The USA?)

It’s hard to pin down exactly where your KitchenAid appliance will have been made. Yes, the company has factories in several US states, including Ohio, Arkansas, and Iowa.

However, we know that Whirlpool, the parent company, uses manufacturers in China as well, and once stated that 80% of its products are made in the US. The famous KitchenAid stand mixers are “assembled in Ohio”, which suggests that at least some of the parts are shipped in. But, the iconic stands themselves are made in the USA.

Who Makes KitchenAid Appliances? (Will They Stand Behind Their Products?)

KitchenAid was acquired by Whirlpool in 1986. Whirlpool Inc is an American company that began life in Michigan over a century ago. As well as KitchenAid and the Whirlpool brand itself, the company owns Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, and Consul.

Both KitchenAid and Whirlpool pride themselves on their reputations for the quality and longevity of their products.

Is KitchenAid a High-End Brand?

Out of Whirlpool Corp’s companies, KitchenAid is definitely promoted as the upscale brand. Just think of those iconic stand mixers and their range of designer colors!

KitchenAid isn’t as luxe as GE’s Cafe range or as chef-focused as Wolf, but if you want a medium-range name with some manufacturing heft and history behind it, KitchenAid is a good brand.

Are Whirlpool & KitchenAid the Same Manufacturer?

Yes, they are. The parent company is actually Whirlpool Corp, which acquired KitchenAid back in 1986.

They still manufacture many of their products under their own Whirlpool brand, and are best-known for white foods such as washing machines and dishwashers. Whirlpool Corp now also owns Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, and Consul.

Are GE and KitchenAid The Same?

No, they’re not. KitchenAid is owned by Michigan company Whirlpool Corp, while GE was bought a few years ago by Haier, a Chinese company. Like KitchenAid, GE has a reputation for producing good-quality and reliable household appliances.

What Products Are in The KitchenAid Collection?

KitchenAid is most famous for those beautiful stand mixers, as seen in many a TV chef’s kitchen. These come in a choice of body finishes (the 2022 color is Beetroot), providing a stylish accent color for your decor.

There’s also a choice of optional attachments for the stand mixer: this short film shows a few of the most versatile KitchenAid attachments to purchase for your new mixer.

Look out for other countertop appliances such as hand blenders, kettles, and toasters. You can also add slow cookers, multi cookers, food choppers, and food processors to your KitchenAid collection.

The brand also makes larger appliances, like dishwashers, refrigerators, and a variety of cooking appliances from kitchen ranges to microwaves. You can also get hold of kitchen essentials such as cooker hoods, waste disposals, and water filters. So in fact, you could pretty much run your entire cooking operation on KitchenAid.

Does this sound expensive? You can save a few dollars by buying used equipment. KitchenAid also sells a selection of certified refurbished products, cutting down on electrical waste as well as helping you stay within your budget.

Do KitchenAid Appliances Come With a Warranty?

KitchenAid does offer a warranty, although you have to register your product before they will give you the details about their level of cover.

However, what seems to be the case is that each product has its own type of warranty, which is good when you think of how diverse their product lines are.

What Do The Reviews Say About KitchenAid Products?

We had a read through Amazon reviews to find out what real customers think about their KitchenAid products.

The classic Artisan Tilt-Head Stand Mixer in the popular red finish currently retails at $429 on Amazon. It scores 4.8 out of a maximum of 5 stars, based on 10,000 ratings.

Users love the mixer’s sturdiness and yes, the colors, but we read a few complaints about the quality of the bowl (it dents, it doesn’t always stay in place, and some reviewers mentioned a “residue”). Still, a lot of the reviewers that describe themselves as bakers think it’s an absolute masterpiece.

What about one of the brand’s larger appliances? We went onto Best Buy’s website to check out the reviews for a stainless steel French door refrigerator. This model (KRMF706ESS) is currently on sale for over $3,800, so it’s not exactly a cheap option for white goods.

It scored 4.2 out of 5 stars, based on 1,375 ratings. The reviews really are an incredible mix of “loved it” and “hated it”. The love was for its stylish looks and quality, as well as its excellent capacity.

The negative reviews seem to be for issues that occured after a while, such as problems with the ice and water dispensers. Apparently, it’s also not the quietest of models.

How Much Do KitchenAid Appliances Cost?

Let’s start with the famous stand mixer. The Artisan series costs upwards of $350 on Amazon (price variations are dependent on color and capacity). Expect to pay closer to $700 for a commercial-quality appliance.

Attachments for the stand mixer start at around $35 for the citrus juicer, and go up to $200 for the pasta making attachments. Worth it for the serious chef, but you’d have to make a lot of pasta at home to break even… However, the ratings and reviews speak for themselves: people really love their KitchenAid kit.

What about the larger appliances? On the KitchenAid website, their large-capacity, 3-rack dishwashers cost from $1,249 and go up to just under $2,000. There’s a 25 cubic liter capacity side-by-side refrigerator and freezer for around $10,000, although you can pick up a smaller side-by-side refrigerator and freezer unit with fewer features for $2,900 for thereabouts.

As you can see, there’s quite a variation in prices, which means that you can still buy KitchenAid appliances on a tighter budget.

Why Are KitchenAid Products So Expensive? (Are They Worth it?)

KitchenAid as a brand prides itself on its quality, built-to-last products. If you’re choosing a KitchenAid mixer over another brand, it’s because you want it to become a real fixture in your kitchen.

It’ll be there for everything from the kids’ birthday party cupcakes through to dicing the fruit for their wedding cakes. And of course, it looks fantastic.

And for the other products? Again, customers choose KitchenAid because it’s a name synonymous with quality. KitchenAid, like its owner Whirlpool, has been in the kitchen appliance field for around a century, and it brings its knowledge and understanding of home catering into everything it makes.

Basically, you’re paying for three things when you buy KitchenAid: quality, reputation, and beautifully styled looks.
